If you’ve been with me and Woman Rising for the last few years (thank you!) then you’ll know only too well, that I’ve gone through many changes in this business.
I’ve always been trying to figure out my ‘secret sauce’. Woman Rising has had more chops and changes then Kim Kardashian’s hair.
But seriously, I couldn’t stick to one idea because I’ve wanted to do SO much from the beginning that I get lost in the romance of it all and working for myself that I’ve failed to be strategic, on track and focused on one end goal.
In 2017 things for me finally clicked after having an honest and heartfelt conversation with a former Mentor of mine. I pulled up my big girl pants and sat down with a pen and paper and got honest.
Like scarily, brutally honest.
I wrote down big dreams of what I genuinely wanted to create, why I wanted to do it and how I could be better service to women across Australia using my own personal recipe of: one large helping of professional skills with a good tablespoon of passion – then viola! The Woman Rising Network finally found it’s purpose and you’ve been handed an anchor to hold on to (you’re welcome).
The truth is, you and I, no matter how hard we push, try to make a change in the world either locally or globally, we will never truly achieve what our greater purpose requires of us until we sit down and get real.
It’s bloody daunting and intimidating – I’m not going to lie to you.
But if we’re not true to ourself and honest with our dreams, it’s very easy to keep floundering, bouncing from one idea to the next. If we can’t genuinely identify what it is we want to achieve in business or our creative pursuits, then the days fly past and we’re looking back on another year and thinking, ‘what exactly have I achieved?’
You may be sick of hearing about it, but goals are vitally important.
I’m not talking about lofty new year’s resolutions or pipe dreams that you don’t believe will ever happen like meeting Ryan Gosling.
I’m talking straight laced, solid and achievable goals with set outcomes and a deadline!
Do you think Richard Branson would be one of the most successful entrepreneurs of his time if he didn’t set goals for his business? Or Lisa Messenger would be the CEO of one of Australia’s fastest growing media companies if she didn’t set goals?
How will you ever know how far you’ve come if you can’t track your progress or look back and think, “I set the intention to achieve this goal and I’ve made it happen.”
Goals don’t have to be just another business task on your to-do list. They should, in fact, be an intentional and heart-driven target that brings you one step closer to achieving a higher mission or purpose.
Yes they may seem daunting, overwhelming and as if you’ve flashed back to your childhood with memories of “are we there yet?” but let me tell you as a former life coach and someone who has stop/started in business more times than she cares to admit, goals are the bees-knees of business and helping you reach your full potential.
